R-Value is a measurement for how well your doors regulate the internal temperature of your garage. The higher the R-Value, the more effective your door is at regulating the temperature of your garage. For a homeowner in a cold-weather climate, with an insulated or heated garage, we recommend a door with a minimum R-Value of 11. R-14 to R-16
Headroom is a measurement of the distance from the top of the door to the lowest point of the ceiling, or obstruction from above. If headroom is an issue for you, Door Systems offers several low headroom solutions.
Although our doors are built to last, some parts do occasionally wear out over time. If you are handy and follow the instructions in your installation manual, you can manage some of the repairs yourself. Some of the parts that you may be able to repair include rollers, bottom seal, hinges, lift handles, windows and window inserts.
However, we strongly recommend that replacing springs, door sections, tracks and operators be handled by an overhead door professional.
We recommend a minimum of 12” clearance for residential garage doors. For standard commercial jobs, we recommend at least 20”.
While a floor isn’t required for installation, it is strongly recommended.

The lower the gauge, the thicker (and stronger) the steel. For example, 24-gauge steel is thicker than 27-gauge steel. However, a “sandwich” constructed door with two 27-gauge steel skins bonded to an insulated core is stronger than a “steel frame” door with a single 24-gauge steel skin.
